Race Preview - Addington Summer Premier Meeting

We are looking forward to having our biggest and strongest team out at the races this Friday night for Addington Raceway’s Summer Premier Race Meeting. Below is a look at our runners and their chances.

RACE 2 – 5.35pm

IT’S ALL ABOUT FAITH

Barrier 8 – Driver: Mark Purdon

He is first up for a while, but he has a couple of nice trials under his belt. He has come up with a wide and tricky draw in what looks to be a nice field, but what he did on Cup Day in November showed he is a class horse and whatever he does here he will improve on and it will be a good lead into his next Auckland campaign that is coming up.

ITALIAN LAD

Barrier 10 - Driver: Tim Williams

He had a couple of runs up North in December and is now back in Canterbury. Hayden is pleased with his work and he had a nice trial last week. The draw might look tricky, but it could work out in his favour. If he can get a reasonably soft run on the rails and the gaps come in the home straight, then he should be right in the mix at the finish.

SMOOTH DEAL

Barrier 13 – Driver: Olivia Thornley

This guy is first up since last September, but he has had a couple of good trials leading into this race. The preferential draw has not been kind to him and four on the back row will not be an easy spot to start from. If he can get a suck into the race, he could be a first four place chance. He should not be far away with a bit of luck in the running, but whatever he does here he will improve on.

RACE 3 – 6.10pm

PACE N PRIDE

Barrier 1 – Driver: Tim Williams

He has come up with a good draw, hopefully. He has only had one stand start on race day to date and he handled himself well in it. On his Auckland form and providing he gets away well and does not make any mistakes he should be a massive chance in this sort of field. But he will have to get away smartly from one.

BETTOR CALL ME

Barrier 17 – Driver: Mark Purdon

Hayden drove this colt at the trials last week and he went well and hit the line strongly. He has come back superbly from his break, but he has unfortunately come up with a terrible draw here. While he will need a few things to go his way, If Mark has any luck in the running, he is definitely one to watch out for late in the piece.

RACE 4 – LISTED WOODLANDS STUD SIRES’ STAKES HARNESS 7000 – 6.41pm

ROCK LEGEND

Barrier 6 – Driver: Tim Williams

This is a nice race for him, as he fits into this really nicely. He has a nice draw too and he is racing for a good stake. So hopefully on what he showed us in his last campaign this should be a good race for him to kick off this time in. Whatever he does this week he will improve on but hopefully his class can take him a fair way in that field this week.

RACE 6 – LISTED NZB STANDARDBRED HARNESS MILLION 3YO FILLIES – 7.40pm

AVANA

Barrier 10 - Driver: Tim Williams

We have been really pleased with her two trials this time back in. She had a small freshen up and she has come back into the barn strengthened up and looking great. She probably benefited a lot from missing the last Auckland trip. This is a good race for her, but she has drawn a very tricky draw and is following out a horse who does not generally have gate speed. Because of this she will need luck in the running but if the race unfolds in her favour, she can be right up in the first four.

RACE 7 – GROUP 3 COCA-COLA SUMMER CUP – 8.11pm

SELF ASSURED

Barrier 5 – Driver: Mark Purdon

This looks to be a very nice race for him on paper. He is the class horse of the field and the small field will suit him. Mark knows him well and drove him at the trials last week and was pleased with his run and it would have tightened him up nicely for this. He should have the wood on most of the ones in this race.

RACE 9 – GROUP 1 THE LEEFIELD STATION NZ BREEDERS STAKES – 9.10pm

AMAZING DREAM

Barrier 5 (comes into barrier 4) – Driver: Mark Purdon

It was impressive run from her two weeks ago and that would have tightened her up well for this race. Hayden has been really pleased with her work since. She has also come up with a nice draw and the 2600m will be right up her alley. All things being equal she should be chasing her own shadow.

We'd like to wish our owners of the above horses the very best of luck!
